Tools for your Toolbox

Since 2014 I have been told to add as many Tools as possible to my "Tool Box".  There is no right or wrong way to use different tools which, help us each day each moment and sometimes each second just to work through something in which we are struggling with or trying to cope with.  I have started adding some tools in which, I have personally found to keep me centered, focused, and to not be upset with myself because of my disabilities.  I hope that you will find maybe a new tool that you can add to your toolbox.  My hope is that you will share what tools have worked for you and why?  Please add any comment that you would like to share.  I believe when we share with others it's another positive ripple effect which is the amazing part of life.

Gardening

I have found for myself being able to plant flowers is a true blessing and therapeutic tool which, I use on a daily basis.  The entire process from putting my hands in the soil, to squeezing the soil between my hands and fingers.  It allows me to be able to release and stress, anxiety, issues I am dealing with, watering, and I love to dead head meaning, picking the flowers that have blossomed and when the old flower is picked then it will be able to produce new flowers.

Walking outside

I love being able to enjoy going for walks for many reasons 1. To be able to clear my mind of life and focus on living "In the Moment" not just moment to moment.  To me there is a night and day between those to ways of looking at life.  To enjoy taking my service animal/my daughter who has 4 legs. :)

Spending time w/family pet's

Being able to spend time with my daughter has always been there for me unconditionally whether I happy or sad through the good times and hard times. She always brings a smile to my face and makes me feel better no matter what

Journaling

For myself, I have found that when I am able to write out on a piece of paper my thoughts, it helps me reduce my Anxiety.

Listening to relaxing music

I have found that my anxiety is much lower when I have relaxing music playing at a low volume

Look @ Pictures

To look at photos of happy memories for me is another tool I find extremely helpful.

Technique on how to not over do yourself

The best part of this technique is that you can customize your debits and credits to form to your everyday life.  Start each day with $ 100.00 Brain Bucks and for each activity, after you are done with your task or goal gauge on how much energy it took out of your $100.00 Brain Bucks for the day.  I found that when I was able to have help with of course but to really find a system which I was and able to judge the amount of energy I was using when trying to accomplish a task.  I constantly find myself struggling with over doing myself and then up in bed or unable to participate in other activities

Ways to overcome challenges

For this next technique you will need to be able to write or have someone write down what you want to do on a daily basis.  Imagine giving yourself $100.00 in mental bucks.  Now for each item you want to accomplish or work on you need to take a break and ask yourself, how much energy did that use up out of your $100.00 bucks?  Now for items which consist of Credits these tasks would be such as resting or taking a nap, eating, drinking plenty of water
