TBI4LIFE Nonprofit

Mission

At TBI4LIFE Nonprofit, our mission is to provide resources, education, support, advocacy, and peer mentorship for survivors of traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and their families and friends. TBI4LIFE is a 501(c)(3) organization.

Vision

We believe that Hope + Faith = Miracles for those who have survived a traumatic brain injury.

I researched how many individuals in Clark County have survived a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).  I first researched how many people lived in Clark County in 2023. There were 521,150 residents. I then found that there are 2.684 individuals who are currently receiving services through the department of social and health services due to a Traumatic Brain Injury. I then did the math, and the results are quite shocking. One out of 195 individuals in Clark County, WA are living with a traumatic brain injury. This State of Washington statute RCW 74.31 or otherwise known as the Tommy Manning Act, is in response to the fact that there are not enough services funded to help people who have survived a traumatic brain injury.

My name is Eric Stokke, founder of TBI4LIFE Nonprofit, and I survived a Traumatic Brain Injury which took place on May 15th, 2014, on a Thursday evening.  I was attempting to get up in the attic which was a typical chore.  Unfortunately, the ladder I had at the time was wobbly.  I remember starting to climb the ladder as usual except this time was different as I started climbing, I remember the ladder just starting to lift up in the front and that is when I blacked out.  I don't know exactly how long I was unconscious but, what I do remember was after I woke up, I remember looking up at the ceiling in my garage and my attic.  After I put my hand on the back of my head, and I saw the blood I just remembered screaming for help.  Thankfully, my neighbors came over.  At the time I fell my wife was upstairs with our son getting ready for bed. My neighbor went upstairs and told my wife what had happened.

Ever since May 15.2014 I feel as if I have been given two arm floaties and dropped off at sea. I have been trying to stay afloat each second, day, week, month, and year that goes by after surviving multiple brain injuries, since I had another head injury in October of 2023 in a car accident.  I decided that I was going to create a Non-Profit for Traumatic Brain Injury Survivors, family members, friends, acquaintances, and society.  The non-profit's mission is to create a positive ripple effect in the community by providing resources for TBI survivor's accommodations in life, to educate the different agencies within the city and community by having training workshops coming soon, to have local events raising awareness of Traumatic Brain Injuries and the Positive Ripple Effect that the community can be a part of one survivor at a time.  I have dedicated the last 7 years putting together resources, finding out the different laws and putting together educational handouts.
